The 2020 CR-V Hybrid will be first electrified SUV from Honda in the U.S, joining the Accord Hybrid and Insight as other electrified Hondas built in the U.S. Americaā€™s best-selling crossover for the past 22 years benefits not only from the new hybrid-electric model, but also sees major upgrades such as a bolder front and rear styling, redesigned wheels, and standard Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technology. All models (non-hybrid) are now powered by a standard 1.5 liter turbo engine, formerly available only in EX and above trims.

“The Honda CR-V is the best-selling CUV over the past two decades and the updates we’ve made to the 2020 model, including a new hybrid-electric variant, solidify its position as a leader in the compact SUV market,” said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior V.P. of Automobile Sales at American Honda Motor Co. “The CR-V Hybrid also signifies our direction to bring Honda hybrid-electric technology to all core models and to invest in the production of electrified vehicles in America.”

Advanced Powertrains

Powered by an advanced two-motor hybrid powertrain, the 2020 CR-V Hybrid combines two electric motors and operates without needing a typical automatic transmission for smooth and seamless power delivery similar to a pure electric vehicle, and also enjoys a wide range of electric-only operation.

Because the hybrid battery pack and its control systems are housed under the cargo floor, the CR-V Hybrid maintains stellar cargo utility, including a 60/40 split rear seatback with a flat load floor. All-wheel drive is available for the CR-V Hybrid, a first for Honda’s two-motor hybrid system in the U.S, which activates an electronic clutch when available traction is low and transmits the appropriate level of power from the electric motor to the rear wheels. Total system horsepower reaches a peak of 212 (up from 190 HP on the non-Hybrid CR-V), along with an expected 50% increase in the EPA city fuel economy rating compared to the CR-V.

For non-hybrid CR-V models, all trims are powered by the efficient 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo engine, rated at 190 horsepower, and include available front- or all-wheel drive configurations.

Sophisticated Interior and Exterior Styling

The 2020 CR-V continues Hondaā€™s legacy of first-class interior space and exterior styling. A more upscale and rigorous exterior features a more aggressive look in front with a more pronounced chrome grill, including round LED fog lights, with the Hybrid model getting hybrid badging, a distinctive blue Honda logo in the center of the grille, and distinctive bar-type fog lights with five LEDs.

In the rear, new features include dark-tinted taillights, dark chrome treatment for the garnish below the rear glass, and 18-inch wheels with a dark gray and machined finish. The CR-V Hybrid Touring trims receive hybrid badges on the hatch, a unique rear bumper, and a hidden tailpipe. Three new exterior colors are available for the 2020 model: Sonic Gray Pearl and Radiant Red Metallic and new Aegean Blue Metallic.

On the inside, the CR-V Hybrid stands out from non-hybrid models with its unique interior trim, featuring the new push-button gear selector flanked by three switches for Econ, Sport, or EV mode, which allows CR-V Hybrid to operate under electric-only power. Also unique to the Hybrid model is the instrument panel, featuring a display for power/charge status, as well as a driver-selectable display for power distribution and regeneration.

Additional in-vehicle technology includes:

Color TFT driver-information interface center meter display
Available 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration
Available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System
Available remote engine start
Available dual-zone climate control, and more.
Advanced Safety and Driver-Assistive Technology

All 2020 Honda CR-Vs now come standard with the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies, including:

Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning and pedestrian sensing capability
Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning
Adaptive Cruise Control with low-speed follow
Lane Keeping Assist
Added driver-assistive technologies include available blind spot information, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, and Auto High Beam headlights, with CR-V Hybrid models benefiting from the ingenious new Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System, meant to increase awareness by pedestrians when travelling under electric-only power.
